50 years ago (1964)
A mother of two teenage daughters was awarded a $250 scholarship for her studies in nursing at Everett Junior College. Helen Batterson, 1317 Rucker Ave., received the award from the Allstate Foundation, marking the fifth anniversary of its nursing scholarship program.
Thelma C. Macy, RN, owner and manager of Pleasant Acres Nursing Home, presented a plaque of appreciation from the residents to the Rev. C.B. Pruett. The Rev. Pruett and members of the Memorial Chapel Community Baptist Church had conducted spiritual, social and recreational programs for the past two years for nursing home residents.
25 years ago (1989)
Office Interiors &Supply, at 2002 Madison St. in the Pinehurst neighborhood, was celebrating 15 years in business with a sale. Deals could be had on folding tables, double pedestal desks, swivel chairs, chair mats, clipboards, erasable markers, commercial envelopes and more.
In a surprise move yesterday the Monroe School Board appointed former Edmonds School District Superintendent Hal Reasby to the district’s top post. The highly regarded Reasby was coming out of retirement to take the position now held by Bill McCleary.
