A talk on new fall fashions was given by Anita Hansen from Chaffee’s at the meeting of Ttereve Chapter of the National Secretaries Association. Lee Lowe was appointed parliamentarian. Winifred Jacobs reported on the Christmas card program. Guests were Thirza Sissons and Mary Johnson.
Ground was broken on the 14th Street fill for a new $500,000 plant for Columbia Hardwood Co. Waste cedar from mills in the Everett area would be used. Newland Construction had the contract for the foundation.
25 years ago (1980)
Dennis Scafe, builder of Terra Dome homes, was to speak at the Lynnwood Library about earth-sheltered houses.
Harry Osborne and other members of the Edmonds Community College kite team successfully launched a 3,640-square-foot parafoil-type kite, beating the Guinness Book world record for the largest kite ever flown. The launch took five hours as about 10 people stretched along the 50-foot width of the kite. It went up into the sky about 300 feet.
