50 years ago (1955)
The renovation of the Everett High School youth center, the Gulls Nest, would be unveiled to high school and junior high school parents. Larry Porter, chairman of the advisory committee, said coffee and cake would be served.
Marine Pvt. Larry LaDuke, son of Winifred LaDuke of 2117 Hoyt Ave., completed recruit training at the Marine Corps recruit depot in San Diego and was home on a 21-day leave. He would next report to Camp Pendleton in California for combat training and then go to Japan.
25 years ago (1980)
The Arts Council of Snohomish County was having a two-hour town meeting at Walter Hall Golf Course Clubhouse. Marian Berge was chairing the meeting. Council director Barry Bonifas was making a presentation on visual arts in the county.
Arlington’s new library, to open in April, would be an earth-sheltered structure that was expected to stay warm in winter and cool in summer with a minimum expenditure of energy. Irene Donnelson was head librarian.
