50 years ago (1955)
Dorothy Baker, curriculum consultant of the Everett School District, was to speak at the Garfield PTA meeting. The meeting also would feature the introduction of the teachers on the school staff by Gerald Kincaid.
Second Lieutenant George Madcison Jr., son of Mrs. M.H. Meacham of 5924 East Drive, arrived at Craig Air Force Base in Selma, Ala., to undergo 10 weeks of intensive flight training in the pilot instructor school.
25 years ago (1980)
The home at 2130 Colby Ave. had taken on a new life with its current owners, Ed and Betty Morrow. The Morrows had painstakingly worked to restore the American Foursquare home originally built for A.L. Van Valey, owner of the Everett Bottling Works. It also had been the Andiron Restaurant and home to the Everett Red Cross.
Dedication of a new nature trail and a one-mile fun run were scheduled at Silver Lake Park. Silver Lake Kiwanis built the trail and sponsored the run. The race entry fee was 25 cents with a $25 prize for the winner.
