50 years ago (1955)
What was believed to be the biggest sign of its kind in the Pacific Northwest was installed at 18th Street and Broadway calling attention to the new Safeway store there.
Jack Lamey was the winner of the Junior Golf Tournament held at Everett Municipal Course. Jerry Logan was junior runner-up. Al Dams was intermediate and Mike Faulkner was runner-up. Joey Richer won the Tidy Tad with Bob Trosvig runner-up.
25 years ago (1980)
Record crowds made this year’s program the most financially successful in the history of the Washington State International Air Show. They expected to net more than $60,000. The sponsors, the Lynnwood Rotary Club, had already pledged more than $12,000 to buy vans for the Senior Services Center. They would be used as the center’s transportation program for the handicapped.
Stanwood area residents would be able to reach their emergency service by dialing 911 beginning in August. David Childs, director of the SNOPAC dispatching agency, said the service would be available throughout General Telephone’s Stanwood exchange.
