50 years ago (1955)
Johnny Wagner won the baseball pitching contest sponsored by Eagles Lodge youth guidance committee at Bagshaw Field. Jarel Parker took second, Stuart Mallory, third and Ralph Dalquist, fourth.
The Great Northern Railway was bringing one of its new colorful Empire Builder coaches to Everett for public inspection. Five such cars had been constructed at the Budd Co. plant in Philadelphia. Others were being built so each train would have three dome coaches and full-length dome for Pullman passengers.
25 years ago (1980)
Unable to navigate the mud-clogged Columbia River, a ship bound for Vancouver, Wash., called at the Port of Everett to unload its 1,350 Subaru automobiles. Port trade director Ron Rardin said he expected to receive other cargo shipments. Debris from Mount St. Helens’ eruption had brought shipping up the Columbia to Vancouver and Portland, Ore., to a halt.
Several students from Janet LaMont’s sixth-grade class at Hilltop Elementary appeared in the movies. Among those appearing in the promotional film by Community Transit were Chuck Hicks, Yvette Allen and Rosemary O’Connor. Vic Sood and Ed Howell of CT said other agencies were interested in using the film.
