Five young Everett men did well at Devil’s Lake on the opening day for fishing at lowland lakes. Mike Meacham, Irv Hansen, Pete Cupic, Bill Tremmel and Ron Baklund caught their limits.
25 years ago (1980)
Everett’s Deaconess Children’s Home, the oldest residential care center in the state, was to close June 30. The home was a victim of dwindling finances and decreasing enrollment. Closure meant the home’s 27 employees would be laid off, and new treatment locations would have to be found for 18 children staying at the 82-year-old Deaconess’ four residential units in the city.
Jerry Allen’s “Two Stone Circles” was chosen for the Lake Ballinger boat and fishing area under a Mountlake Terrace public art program. The work, made up of two stone circles and four bronze forms, and funded for $3,000, would be installed in the fall.
