50 years ago (1954)
Hilda Johnson was the first woman to become a licensed amateur radio operator in Everett. She received her novice ham license the year before and passed the tests for her general license in May. Johnson, a member of the Civil Air Patrol and Cascade Radio Club, had talked to people from 20 foreign countries on five continents.
Eva Spillman and Dora Campbell organized the annual Forget-Me-Not flower sale for Disabled American Veterans. Rainbow Girls assisted by selling the blue flowers on Everett streets.
25 years ago (1979)
Lynn Arnold O’Beirn, the woman for whom Lynnwood was named, died recently. Her husband Karl, also deceased, had been in the real estate business when the south Snohomish County city was named.
Roxanne Renee Blair and Bert Cronin Jr. were married earlier in the month at Immaculate Conception Church. The bride was attended by matron of honor Bev Wiedmeier and bridesmaids Susan Schultz, Kit Raney and Cheryl Johnson. Oz Dyre was best man.
