50 years ago (1954)
Everett’s Junior Chamber of Commerce sent out an invitation for a few more people to fill a chartered bus for a Seattle Rainiers baseball game. Roger Werner, president of the Jaycees, said the group would first go to the Rainier Brewery for a buffet dinner and then on to Sick’s Seattle Stadium. Everett’s Loren Meyers would pitch for the Rainiers against Hollywood.
Jo Jo Benn, 5-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Kent Benn, was enjoying the new bicycle he won at the annual All-City Playday organized by local police and firefighters at Forest Park.
25 years ago (1979)
Janet Garner sat on a grass mat and sipped hot coffee from her camping stove. Garner lived in a tepee under the boughs of second-growth cedars. One might expect this scene to be on the slopes of the Olympics or in a glade in the Cascades. Instead, Garner lived in a tranquil grove a stone’s throw from bustling Lynnwood.
Due to popular demand, Ye Olde Fish Market, with stores in Everett and Lynnwood, was opening another store at the corner of Avenue C and Second Street in Snohomish.
