50 years ago (1954)
Warren Preboski, commander of the Earl Faulkner American Legion Post No. 6, did the obvious Sunday, winning the Commander’s Trophy in the post’s tournament at Municipal course. He won with a net score of 68. Ron Stockton, with a two-over-par 75 round, took the tourney’s low gross honors.
The Seattle Heights Civic Club in south Snohomish County asked neighboring organizations and businesses to aid their effort of petitioning for a stoplight at the intersection of Hall’s Lake Road and Highway 99. Jack Boyle, secretary of the club, reported that letters had been sent out to those in the area.
25 years ago (1979)
Betty Morrow was interviewing applicants for a program at Everett Community College. Students could take a three-quarter course on child development in preparation for becoming a teacher’s aide.
Children’s Association of Providence Hospital was presenting is second annual Big Band Dance in the Everett Mall. Music by Percy Bronson and his orchestra would set the mood for the benefit dance. Tickets were available at City Floral, Chaffee’s, Rodland Toyota, Walsh-Platt Motors, Harmon’s in Snohomish, Alderwood Drug and Thread Shoppe in Marysville.
