50 years ago (1954)
The Broadway cutoff for Highway 99 from south Everett was scheduled to open after years of construction. It was expected to become a part of an eventual Everett-Tacoma toll route.
For the second time in three years, Bob Whisman walked off with top honors in the Snohomish County Men’s Amateur Golf Tournament. He captured the crown with a 71 in the final round at Cedarcrest Golf Course. Runner-up was Bud Smith.
25 years ago (1979)
Laurie Stewart and Patricia Twisselman were promoted to vice presidents of Olympic Bank. Stewart set up Olympic’s Visa card department and was now manager of corporate systems. Twisselman had been with the bank for five years and was in charge of investment portfolio management. Both lived in Everett.
Above the Belt, a store featuring young men’s jackets, shirts, sweaters and jeans, now had stores in Everett Mall and Seattle Northgate shopping center. The owners were Tom Campion and Gary Haakenson.
