Loren Baker was to give a presentation to Trinity Lutheran Men’s Club titled "Journey to the Stars." Jack Hallgren was president of the club. Pastor Edwin Johnson was to speak to the group at upcoming events.
Ronald Robinson, son of Mr. and Mrs. R.K. Robinson, 1921 Baker Ave., was selected for membership in Phi Eta Sigma, the national freshmen men’s scholarship honorary, at the University of Idaho in Moscow. Those with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher were eligible.
Snohomish County offered to replace the 60-year-old bridge that connected Index with the Stevens Pass Highway. Alexander Grieve, assistant director of the Department of Public Works, said the replacement was a high priority. Index Mayor Maggie Huff and citizens Bert Spada and Bynum Sutton favored a new span. Councilman Eric Thomson and general store owner Barbara McDonald felt the old bridge would suffice.
Langley had a new City Council member, Dolores Cobb. Council members unanimously accepted Mayor Don Manchester’s appointment. She would serve the unexpired term of Norm Desdier, who had resigned. Cobb and her husband owned Skipper’s Inn restaurant in Langley.
