The MercOMatic emblem was still visible on the snow-covered trunk of a 1952 Mercury parked on Wall Street by City Hall. South and east of Everett, daffodils poked their bright yellow heads through a blanket of snow. The freak snowstorm was heavy for about an hour.
Members of the Elks Club and the Everett High School track team wondered for a short time if snowshoe races and slaloms down the stadium aisles might be appropriate as they discussed the Elks-sponsored Cross-State Relays. Present were: Ivan Sturgeon, exalted ruler; Ray Sidley, relay meet chairman; Art Ramstad, head coach; Bill Langenbacher, assistant coach; and Dick Hudson, captain of the team.
Virginia Simpson of Everett was $29,000 richer after winning a promotion sponsored by Miles Laboratory, the makers of Alka Seltzer. She wasn’t sure what she would do with the winnings.
Ryan Hanegan and Steve D’Hondt of Cascade High School had plans to build a better bicycle. The plans were among Cascade’s 10 entries in the Energy Fair at Seattle Center. Everett and Edmonds high schools also had entries.
