Those seeking help with their income tax returns could visit the Internal Revenue Service office at 1917 Hewitt Ave. in the Cascadian Apartments building. Howard Church was deputy collector. The officer was formerly in the First National Bank building.
Practicing the earthquake or duck-and-cover drill at Garfield School were members of Adaline Wipf’s first-grade class. The children were learning self-protection in case of a disaster as part of Civil Defense Week.

The Herald included an editorial titled "The non-transit problem … steps needed to relieve traffic rush." It was just as difficult to convince people that the area faced a crunch on mass transit as it was to convince them that they were doomed to face more gas shortages. The editorial said a mass transit system for the Puget Sound region was needed.
