A front-page photograph of 3310 Grand Ave. showed that the city had become a winter wonderland. The leafless maple trees and evergreen trees took on added beauty with their winter blankets. Another photo showed kids sledding down Bakery Hill at 36th Street between Colby and Wetmore avenues.
S. Frank Spencer, a pioneer of Everett, died in Arizona. When he first came to the area he served as a guide for the Ruckers to inspect the possibilities of laying out a city on Port Gardner Bay. For many years he farmed on Smith Island. He had also served as mayor, commissioner of public works, school board member and director of housing authority.
Capt. Stuart C. Reynolds, the state patrol’s district commander in Everett, reported that in a recent crackdown on I-5 north of Marysville between 40 percent and 50 percent of the motorists cited for violating the 55 mph speed limit were Canadians.
Day trips to the snowfields needn’t involve burning a full tank of gas or fighting traffic jams on the way to ski areas. One recommended area was Deer Creek east of Silverton on the Mountain Loop Highway.
