Work was progressing steadily on the new divided Highway 99 north of Marysville. Near the end of the highway the road would go under the Great Northern Railway. The four-lane underpass was being dug out and the new railroad bridge was under construction.
Estrellita Chapter of Horizon met at the home of Annette Gerry. Hi-Jinx plans were budding, and further suggestions were to be submitted to Barbara Moreau. A rummage sale, progressive dinner, installation of officers and inactive membership were discussed.
Steven Brown was the manager of the new Maurice’s and Mr. Mark stores at the Everett Mall. Maurice’s opened in June, and Mr. Mark was to open later in October. Both were based in Duluth, Minn. Brown was a senior merchandising manager for J.C. Penney for four years. He and his family were moving to the Everett area.
People in business included Kay Giles, who was elected president and general manager of Swift Petroleum. Barbara Nelson joined Associated Sand &Gravel as credit manager. Howard Bell was named executive vice president of Home Savings and Loan.
