50 years ago (1964)
Cash awards were presented the top four writers in an essay contest sponsored by the Auxiliary to Old Guard Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Winners were Sandra Mathews, Michelle Kallstrom, Jo Whitaker and Wendy Watson.
Planning for an expanded Christmas display for the community, President Erling Kalstad of Marysville Chamber of Commerce had issued an invitation for people to submit ideas. Construction of the display had been volunteered by Jack Alley, to be assisted by his wife Deanna, and his father, Arthur Alley.
25 years ago (1989)
Dave Trott did two tasks at once as he walked his dog Squirt down Grand Avenue on his way to dumping his lawn clippings. Lawnmowers and dogs had been out in abundance this week as spring continued to look more and more like summer. It was over 70 today.
A sunny day could turn a young boy’s thoughts to playing baseball, going barefoot and a long warm summer to do both. It was such a day in north Everett for Jimmy Walls, 10, kicking up his heels on the way to practice with his friend James Cooper, 7.
