50 years ago (1963)
Student teachers at Whittier School got an explanation of materials in the files from Tom Perry, a fifth grade teacher who was the cooperating teacher with whom Nancy Oman was working. Christine Dorsey, a third grade teacher working with teacher Marilyn Schilaty, answered some questions.
Children at Roosevelt Elementary School no longer had to fight brush when they took a short cut along the former interurban right-of-way to and from school. Five blocks had been cleared and PUD employees Rudy Roth and Doug Eisenman were checking power poles for safety. Students taking advantage of the improved route were Steven Breeden, Kirk Benson, Kathy Benuse, Debbie Kay Walker and Monica D. Walker.
25 years ago (1988)
October started with beautiful weather. After sailing his new inflatable catamaran on Silver Lake, Marv La Born, of Everett, said he was just having fun between gusts of wind. La Born was teaching himself to sail with the silent approval of watching waterfowl.
YMCA of Snohomish County was having a membership special. Family Branches of the Y were located in Everett at 2720 Rockefeller Ave., Marysville at 1010 Beach St. and southeast of Everett at 13723 Puget Park Drive.
