Margie Abbott, a Granite Falls High School student, prepared to leave the Everett State Patrol office on her run through the course of the annual Safe Driving Contest for Teen-Agers sponsored by the Snohomish County Peace Officers Association. Checking her off were Tressa Johnson of the sheriff’s office, Arlington Police Chief Leo Myers and Vic Holmquiest, state probation officer.
Blacktopping of the Evergreen Motor Speedway track at the Evergreen Fairgrounds began this week in preparation for inaugural races on Memorial Day. Inspecting the project were fair manager Robert Follis, grounds co-chairman Elmer Broughton and race track owner Dick Norton.
25 years ago (1988)
Everett Mall was celebrating its Hollywood-style Grand Introduction the day after tomorrow. Ted Shackelford, the “Knots Landing” leading man, was guest celebrity at the curtain-raising ceremony. He was receiving star treatment from Everett Pacific Hotel and Top Hat Limousine of Everett.
Tony Ventrella, sportscaster and actor, was playing Prince Charming as he judged Everett Mall’s search for Cinderella. The winner would fly to Los Angeles or New York for a formal screen test and interviews with casting directors for the movie “Cinderella Rock.”
