50 years ago (1963)
Pinehurst Commercial Club installed officers at the annual dinner at Waldheim, where outgoing secretary Effie Gemmer summarized accomplishments the past eight years. President Thys Boone presented gag gifts to the new officers: Fred Gulbrandson, president; Paul Watson, vice president; Pat Watson, secretary and Edith Gulbrandson, treasurer.
Donna Tollefson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Tolleson, 6901 McDougall Ave., was celebrating Valentine’s Day and her twelfth birthday looking over her 12-volume set of “Great Books for Children” that she won in the Young Hobby Club contest.
25 years ago (1988)
From his office window Everett Community College President Bob Drewel could see the second floor of the new $5.9 million library and student center emerging from metal studs and concrete slabs. The hammering, drilling and shouting were music to his ears. It was being built on the site of the former union building which went up in flames taking the life of Everett firefighter Gary Parks.
A recreational vehicle show was taking place on the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe. Twelve major dealers of 50 product lines were showing motor homes, travel trailers, 5th wheelers, campers, camping vans and more.
