50 years ago (1964)
The Everett YMCA was offering the women of the community a chance to get slim and trim through its gym and swim classes. Talking over the program were Nancy Weis, Sippie Kincaid, Jackie Lanphere and instructor Alma Woods.
An open house would be held at the new Lona Vista Apartments, 10th St. and Broadway, tomorrow and Sunday. The 20 units – 12 of which were one-bedroom and rest were two-bedroom – were now ready for occupancy. The outside finish of the three-story building was Cascade Roman brock, marble crete stucco and Montana travertine stone.
25 years ago (1989)
Everett businessman Pete Kinch today officially announced his plans to make a bid for mayor in 1989. Kinch had many credits to his name including former city council member, president of the Everett Community College Foundation and Everett Area Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Citizen of the Year in 1982. He, his wife Diane and their three children lived in south Everett.
The lengthy debate over a fire-and-rescue boat in Edmonds hadn’t slowed in the new year. Jack Weinz, Edmonds fire chief, argued that the waterfront needed the kind of protection a fire-and-rescue boat could provide.
