SEATTLE — A Shoreline woman kept her stash of cash so secret that her family didn’t realized they had tossed her savings when they recycled a VCR.
Tony Hwang said his mother stored $6,000 in a bag inside the tape slot of a VCR, but didn’t tell anyone. Her family didn’t know about the loot when they took the VCR to a high school recycling event.
KOMO reports workers at Renton-based 1 Green Plant searched through six containers of old computers, video games and other appliances hauled away from the event. They eventually found it.
On Thursday, company owner Michael Szanyi reunited the woman with the VCR and cash.
He joked that she should keep it in a bank, not in a VCR.
