The Seattle International Film Festival attracts filmmakers from all over the world. So having your film screened there is pretty special.
Just ask Megan Baxter, a Meadowdale High School student whose documentary “I Just Am Who I Am,” screened at the Egyptian Theatre in Seattle on June 5 as FutureWave Shorts program. The four-minute documentary is about the life of a deaf teacher.
The film was also part of an online competition.
Claire Beach, Megan’s film teacher, said the film had strong support at its screening. “It’s so validating for young people to see their work on the big screen,” she said.
Megan, along with fellow student Bryn Fraker, was also nominated for a Northwest Regional Emmy. Bryn’s documentary “Nice Girl” is about her artist mother, Tracy Fraker.
Megan and Bryn take Advanced Video Production at Meadowdale, taught by Beach. “I am so proud of these young dynamic filmmakers,” she said.
“This has been the most amazing year we’ve had,” she added, noting that many of her students have been honored at other local film festivals.
