KENMORE — A tugboat sank in Lake Washington, spilling an unknown amount of diesel fuel but causing no immediate reports of environmental damage.
The state Department of Ecology says the tug, operated by Lakeshore Marine Construction, sank about 1:40 p.m. Saturday at the northeast end of the lake, near Kenmore.
The agency says a “heavy sheen” of diesel fuel was contained by booms.
It’s not immediately known what caused the tug to sink. No injuries were reported.
A contractor was called to raise the tug, and Ecology crews were on site to monitor any pollution threats to the lake, which separates Seattle from its eastern suburbs.
Lakeshore Marine Construction does waterfront construction such as retaining walls and docks.
