EVERETT – Officials at the Snohomish County Red Cross chapter were busy this morning helping five volunteers get ready to fly tonight to San Diego to provide support for the nearly 750,000 Californians displaced by wildfires.
The team likely will be deployed to feed and provide comfort for evacuees at Qualcomm Stadium, the football arena in San Diego which has been transformed into an emergency shelter.
“You do whatever you can to make someone’s stay away from their home a bit more comfortable,” said Leslie Winkler, 61. She’ll join more than 2,000 Red Cross volunteers from around the country.
