The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory, predicting up to three inches of fresh snow this afternoon and evening followed by rain.
The arrival of a warm weather front and cold air near the ground is producing snow. Accumulations are expected to be heaviest on the high hills, away from the water, the weather service said.
“Motorists can expect locally slick roadways and snowfall this afternoon and early this evening,” the weather service said
Forecasters still expect the snow to turn to rain as a strong onshore flow develops the sweep the last of the cold air from the region.
