EVERETT – A man who reportedly tried to run down a police officer with his car is behind bars after an eight-hour standoff that ended with his arrest.
Police found the man hiding in an upstairs closet in a house in the 800 block of 90th Street SW after shooting more than a dozen canisters of pepper spray into the home, Everett Lt. Ted Olafson said.
The 36-year-old man, who is believed to live in Snohomish County, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a weapon and for a parole violation.
A member of the Snohomish Regional Drug Task Force called police about 4:30 p.m. Friday after seeing the man in his car at the Sunrise Motor Inn in the 8400 block of Evergreen Way.
An officer tried to approach the man, but the man sped toward him as if to run him down, police said. The officer pulled his gun and fired, puncturing one of the car’s tire.
The man continued to drive away and ditched his car in the 800 block of 90th Street SW. Police learned he was hiding somewhere in a house, but attempts to contact him were unsuccessful, Olafson said.
Police got a search warrant after midnight and eventually entered the home to arrest the man.
