SPOKANE — Spokane police have arrested a 16-year-old boy accused of making threats and scrawling graffiti about an upcoming “Columbine style shooting” at his Spokane high school.
Officer Jennifer DeRuwe said detectives arrested the teen Tuesday at his home for investigation of threats to bomb or injure property. She says police also executed a search warrant at the boy’s house.
DeRuwe says police received a report “a few weeks ago” of a conversation among students that referred to a “Columbine style shooting” to occur at North Central High School. The students were not identified.
KXLY reports that graffiti scrawled last week on the back wall of a grocery store referred to a planned April 20 shooting at the same school. Sgt. Mark Griffiths tells KXLY that surveillance video from the store helped police make the arrest.
Friday is the 13th anniversary of the 1999 Columbine High School shootings in Littleton, Colo., in which two Columbine students killed 13 people and then themselves.
