Friday night’s gusty winds sent broken tree branches into power lines all over Snohomish County and the surrounding areas, contributing to scattered power outages throughout the evening.
Snohomish County PUD crews were out for hours working to restore power to homes affected by outages, spokesman Mike Thorne said.
“Our crews are going to be out there as long as it takes to get everybody back in,” he said. “They very well could be out all night.”
The earliest outages affected areas around Stanwood, Lake Goodwin and Camano Island.
The number of outages peaked around 7 p.m. and involved about 6,800 homes primarily in the Mukilteo and Edmonds areas.
Most of the outages were from tree branches falling into power lines, Thorne said. The wet leaves made branches heavy, and the winds didn’t help.
By 9:30 p.m., the number of outages had dropped to about 1,500 homes.
