Q: It has been many years since I read some of the license law books, so maybe things have changed. Driving on I-5 (or any freeway, as far as that goes), let’s say that I am driving in the HOV, Diamond Lane, carpool lane or whatever you wish to call it. I was always under the impression that the “Posted Speed Limit Signs” were meant for all drivers. However, whenever I am driving in this lane, let’s say that the posted speed limit is 60 mph, and I normally attempt to hold it between 60 and 62 (who knows just how accurate a speedometer is), there are always drivers who drive up close and honk their horns. If it’s nighttime, they flick their headlights and then go around me and at the same time “give me the finger.” Away they go at a much faster speed.
When driving in the HOV lanes, can drivers go any speed they desire?
A: Lt. Walt Fisch, spokesman for the Washington State Patrol, said the speed allowed in HOV lanes, as in all other lanes, is the maximum posted speed limit.
