Saturday’s the chance to take the controls of a $1.5 million robot nicknamed da Vinci — although they’re probably not going to allow you to perform surgery.
Providence Regional Medical Center Everett is hosting a free hands-on health fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday on the first floor concourse of the Cymbaluk Medical Tower, 1700 13th St.
One of the main attractions will be surgeons demonstrating the da Vinci surgical robot. And people will get a chance to take the controls for themselves. The machine allows surgeons to sit behind a computer console and look into a screen for a high-definition, three-dimensional view inside the body that can be magnified up to 10 times.
Surgical attachments are snapped onto the end of robotic arms that can be twisted and turned like a human wrist. The instruments are used for cutting, clipping and sewing up incisions.
Booths and other activities will be part of the fair. Those include a full-size talking manikin to be used to teach CPR and pulse detection; helmet fitting and measurement for safety seats; and therapeutic harpists will put on a display. Silvertips mascot Lincoln will visit kids.
The health fair is also expected to including InsideOut — the Original Organ Show that uses real human organs to show the effects of unhealthy behaviors — tar-laden lungs from smoking, a heart with a bullet hole, a liver hardened through excessive alcohol use and more.
Flu shots will also be available for $10 for ages 3 and up.
