Suspect in attempted rape of girl identified

EVERETT – A man suspected of attempting to rape a 16-year-old girl in her south Everett apartment June 29 has been identified by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and is still at large.

Genaro Alfonso Rodriguez, 25, allegedly climbed into an open window of a first-floor apartment at 128th Street SW and Eighth Avenue W and allegedly sexually assaulted the girl, who was asleep at the time, said Jan Jorgensen, spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office.

The girl’s sister, who is 14 and sleeps in the same room as her older sister, awoke to the sound of her sister screaming and fighting off an attacker. The attacker was scared off by the victim’s screams and fighting and fled, Jorgensen said.

The Sheriff’s Office was called, and a K-9 tracking unit pursued the attacker but was unable to find him.

The suspect was identified by the victim and her sister from a Sheriff’s Office photo montage. He also had been frequently seen in the area near the apartment before the attack, Jorgensen said. He is known to people in the local apartment complex as "Guyo" and claims to be a member of the Mexican mafia, she added.

Rodriguez was arrested recently on suspicion of trespassing in an unoccupied apartment near the area where the attack occurred and appears to be a transient, Jorgensen said.

"We believe he might have stalked the victim prior to the attack because he went straight to the apartment," Jorgensen said.

"We’re hoping someone has seen him," she said.

A $50,000 warrant has been issued for Rodriguez’s arrest. He is a Hispanic male, 5 feet 2 inches to 5 feet 4 inches tall, and weighs between 140 and 150 pounds. He is described as stocky, with black, closely shaven hair, but not bald. He drives an older, red, beat-up, two-door hatchback.

Those with information about Rodriguez and his whereabouts are asked to call Detective Preston Walcker at 425-388-6378. Those who can positively identify and locate Rodriguez are asked to call 911.
