Mountlake Terrace High School teacher Vince DeMiero comes face-to-face every day with plenty of reasons why cuts in state funding will hurt public schools.
Today he launched an effort online to let the public know about them.
“There are about 160 reasons why I started this grassroots effort — those 160 reasons are the students I see in my classroom every day at Mountlake Terrace High School,” DeMiero said in a prepared statement. “If signed into law, this proposed legislation would destroy public education as we know it.”
DeMiero set up www.160reasons.org as a sounding board for students, teachers and supporters of public schools. It also contains links to additional information on what the Legislature is considering for education in its proposed budgets.
DeMiero, a journalism teacher, has taught at Mountlake Terrace High School for 23 years. In 2010 he ran for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 1st Legislative District. He finished third in the primary, falling a couple hundred votes shy of a finish in the top two.
