EVERETT — A contractor tried to save his tools Saturday from a fleeing thief, but instead wound up being dragged 100 feet by the thief’s pickup, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The victim, whose name was not released, was treated at a local hospital for multiple injuries and is expected to recover, sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen said.
The incident occurred at a new construction site at 117th Street SE and 50th Drive SE. When the contractor arrived for work Saturday, he saw a man breaking into his tool trailer, Jorgensen said.
The contractor blocked in the suspect’s vehicle, but the suspect rammed the contractor’s vehicle several times. The contractor tried to get the tools off the back of the suspect’s truck, but the suspect pulled the contractor by his arm to the driver’s side of the truck and drove away at a high rate of speed, dragging the contractor 100 feet, Jorgensen said.
The contractor eventually managed to pry himself off the truck and fell onto the curb.
The suspect was described as white, in his mid-30s, with brown hair and a thin build. He was accompanied by a white female in her early 30s with medium length black hair and a thin build. They were riding in an early ’70s or ’80s flatbed pickup truck, white or cream-colored, with dual rear wheels. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s tip line at 425-388-3845.
