MONROE — A tower at construction company Cadman, Inc. caught fire Saturday morning, while a contractor was in the process of removing the structure. No one was injured.
“They were using a hot torch to cut through it and then something caught fire,” said Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Justyn Shevlin. “They tried to extinguish it without success.”
It took SRFR roughly 30 minutes to extinguish the fire.
The site is near the Skykomish River, located in the 16000 block of 177th Avenue SE in Monroe. SRFR and the contractor removing the structure, Wetland Creations, built a dam to prevent runoff from entering the river. Shevlin said there are no environmental concerns at this point.
The tower sorts gravel and has various chutes, conveyor belts and mechanical equipment. Shevlin added that it was possibly some type of nest that caught fire.
