PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland authorities say a semitrailer truck has fallen about 65 feet from an interstate interchange, and the driver was critically injured.
It took firefighters about half an hour Wednesday morning to remove the driver from the heavily damaged cab.
The driver, not immediately identified, was taken to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland with life-threatening injuries.
The fire department says the truck collided with a vehicle before plunging into a parking lot.
Transportation officials told commuters using Interstate 84 westbound to expect delays and said they hoped to reopen the I-84 ramp to Interstate 5 northbound by the end of the Wednesday morning commute.
The state transportation department said the ramp would be closed Wednesday night for repairs.
