EVERETT — Firefighters extinguished flames that gutted a portion of a two-story duplex in the 800 block of Locust Street and displaced four adults early Friday.
The Everett Fire Department arrived on the scene, about a block off Broadway in north Everett, at about 2 a.m. One half of a duplex unit was ablaze. The residents had escaped unharmed, the fire department said.
The Red Cross was summoned to assist the displaced residents. The Snohomish County PUD and Puget Sound Energy responded to secure utilities.
Investigators were on the scene Friday morning to determine the cause.
Fire officials said the incident is a reminder to check smoke alarms and practice a family fire escape plan, which should include two ways out of each room and an outside meeting place a safe distance from the home.
