POULSBO — A couple had to be rescued from a sinking boat after striking a mooring during a holiday boat parade.
The Kitsap Sun reported that a line running between the buoy and its anchor wrapped around one of the boat’s propellers during Friday evening’s Poulsbo Lighted Boat Parade.
Alan and Monica Rogers decided to stay onboard their 39-foot Bayliner, “Oolah B,” and free the vessel in the morning.
But they awoke around 3 a.m. to find the boat leaning and taking on water.
Several agencies responded to the Rogers’ call for help, but a pleasure boat reached them first and helped the couple to safety. They were not injured.
Kitsap County Sheriff’s Deputy Scott Wilson says only the bow and top of the cabin of “Oolah B” were above water when law enforcement arrived.
