GRANITE FALLS — A crash Tuesday morning sent two Granite Falls-area teens to the hospital.
The accident happened about 7 a.m. in the 13300 block of Burn Road. The teens were driving south in a Jeep Cherokee when the driver of a Toyota 4Runner attempted to pass them in a no-passing zone, Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.
The two vehicles collided. The Jeep went off the road and struck a tree.
A passenger in the Jeep was critically injured. The girl, 16, was taken by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The Jeep’s driver, 17, suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital, Hover said.
The driver of the Toyota, 17, was not injured.
Investigators believe speed and improper passing appear to be factors in the crash, Hover said. The crash is under investigation.
