SKYKOMISH — Heading into the Memorial Day weekend, traffic on U.S. 2 was alternating through one lane Friday near Milepost 53, prompting backups. Crews had discovered a sinkhole beneath the westbound lane, prompting emergency repairs.
Crews filled the hole with cement and both lanes were open to traffic at 1:05 p.m. Friday. Congestion was still expected — but only for the usual holiday travel reasons.
1:15 p.m. UPDATE: All lanes of US 2 at milepost 53 are BACK OPEN to traffic. Thanks to our crews for the hard work, and you travelers for your patience.
We expect the current backups to clear shortly, but expect congestion to return due to #MemorialDayWeekend traffic. https://t.co/QM7yooLK3M
