BREMERTON — The USS John C. Stennis is scheduled to deploy Monday from its homeport of Bremerton. The aircraft carrier is on its way to the western Pacific Ocean and the Persian Gulf for a seven-month deployment.
The Navy said the Stennis will leave port around 1:45 p.m. after a morning news conference and ceremony in Bremerton.
The aircraft carrier will need the better part of an hour to move away from the port. Its flight deck covers 4.5 acres and the ship weighs 97,000 tons. It is propelled by two nuclear reactors and has a top speed of 30 knots. It has a crew of about 5,000.
