Rain reduced the number but not the enthusiasm of those participating Saturday in Walk MS, an annual fundraiser for research, advocacy, scholarships, programs and services for people with multiple sclerosis and their families.
The procession at Tulalip included babies in strollers and adults in wheelchairs. Encouraged by cheerleaders from Lakewood High School,
The walk also included Barb Roetcisoender, from Snohomish, getting a ride from her son Adam across the finish line.
The 3-mile walk from the Tulalip Amphitheatre drew roughly 400 people, about half the number that would have been expected under sunny skies.
Even so, organizers were optimistic it wouldn’t have too much of an effect on fundraising. They expect many of those who didn’t walk still would follow through on pledges, said Patty Shepherd-Barnes, president of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Greater Northwest Chapter.
