OLYMPIA — State House and Senate committees scheduled hearings today on bills to expand the rights of same-sex couples.
Lawmakers also continue to work on education and other issues while they await tax revenue projections that will allow them to make final decisions on a budget for the next two years.
The legislation for registered domestic partners is known as the “everything but marriage” bill.
Among the other hearings in Olympia is one on a bill that would allow schools to hold classes only four days a week instead of five. The goal is to save schools money on transportation and other overhead.
Finances will also be the topic today when state School Superintendent Randy Dorn appears before the House Education appropriations committee.
