RANDLE — A major washout is keeping cars and other vehicles from traveling the road to the Windy Ridge viewpoint at the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument.
Windy Ridge overlooks Spirit Lake from the east side of the volcano’s crater. It normally receives about 100,000 visitors each summer season.
Gifford Pinchot National Forest officials say Forest Road 99 is open to Bear Meadows, about 11 miles away from the viewpoint, but heavy winter storm damage will require repairs the rest of the way. The road to the viewpoint is still open to bicycles and foot traffic.
