Bugs, gremlins, zombies. Whatever you call them, if you’re a regular HeraldNet visitor, you may have noticed some technical problems lately. Here’s a rundown of where we stand:
Problem No. 1, Slow article loads: Once in a while, you may come across an article that is incredibly slow to load, especially in our archives. We’ve been working with our Web host and seem to be doing a lot better on this one since Thursday afternoon.
Problem No. 2, Comments: Users may find that it takes a very long time for the comment form to register their comment, or that it shows an error instead of saying the comment has gone in. Then it may take a while for the comment to show on a story. We know this is an unacceptable situation for site users, and we’re working on a fix. We also know our comment system wasn’t that great to begin with, and we’re looking at alternatives. What sites would you suggest we emulate for comments? I’d ask you to comment below, but maybe it’s best if you email me: dparry@heraldnet.com.
Problem No. 3: Tweet buttons: Usually the tweet buttons on stories work fine, but sometimes they’re spitting out Web addresses with extra code. If you use the tweet button, check the address and make sure it’s short enough.
Problem No. 4: Facebook recommend buttons: Facebook made a change early this month that has broken a lot of ‘recommend’ or ‘like’ buttons on various sites. We’re researching that one and may need to remove the button for a while, but in the meantime, the ‘share’ button works just fine for sharing stories on Facebook.
Those are the biggies. If you see any more zombies or gremlins, please send them my way.
