EUGENE, Ore. — The homeless tent camp in Eugene known as Whoville is back up, but in a different spot.
The Register-Guard reports about 15 homeless people have set up on city-owned land next to a downtown street.
The Whoville camp was dismantled by police in April. It had been home to as many as 50 residents since last fall.
Officials say they want people to get connected with the services to find safe and legal shelter.
But homeless people say there isn’t enough temporary housing to house them all.
There’s an estimated 3,000 homeless people in Eugene, but only 60 city-sanctioned beds.
The city posted a “no camping” sign at the camp on Wednesday. It means campers have 24 hours to leave. As of Friday, police had not removed the campers.
