LYNNWOOD — Work to widen shoulders on a short section of Highway 524 (Filbert Road) starts Monday and is expected to last about one month.
Contractors working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will widen the shoulders of westbound Highway 524 about six feet between 196th Place SW and 21st Avenue W.
There currently are some spots along curve where the shoulder is just six inches wide before it drops into a drainage ditch. With several multi-unit complexes on that side of the road, a wider shoulder would provide more room for pedestrians until funding for sidewalks becomes available, state transportation staff said.
