SEATTLE — A 54-year-old Seattle woman has been charged with criminal mistreatment and first-degree theft after police found her 83-year-old mother living in a maggot-infested bed.
According to police reports, officers responding to the older woman’s Seattle home in December at the request of another relative found the woman in bed, surrounded by piles of food wrappers. Paramedics found that large portions of the woman’s skin had sloughed off her body; the skin appeared infected and filled with maggots.
Police say the woman’s bed had been soaked through with feces and urine.
Officers say the woman’s daughter, Margaret George, has acknowledged being responsible for her mother’s care.
Seattlepi.com says prosecutors contend a review of George’s finances indicated she transferred thousands of dollars from her mother’s account to her own and used the money to finance her own lifestyle. George has not yet entered a plea.
