LYNNWOOD — Police arrested a driver Saturday afternoon after he hit a pedestrian in a crosswalk near Swedish/Edmonds Medical Center.
The pedestrian, a woman in her 20s, was taken to the hospital with what seemed to be non-life threatening injuries, Lynnwood Police Cmdr. Jim Nelson said. She was conscious at the intersection of Highway 99 and 216th Street SW when officers and medics arrived at about 12:24 p.m.
The driver of a Hyundai Elantra, a man in his 70s, was arrested a short while later. At least one person witnessed the incident and was able to identify the vehicle and driver.
“The driver did not initially stop,” Nelson said. “He was stopped by police at about 188th (Street Southwest).”
That’s about 2 miles from the site of the hit-and-run. The man did not seem to be impaired, Nelson said.
Police were interviewing the witness to learn more details like the colors of traffic signals at the intersection when the woman was hit. She was in the crosswalk, Nelson said, meaning she had the right of way.
The driver remained in custody Saturday afternoon while police continued their investigation.
