OLYMPIA — A Yelm man accused of forcing his teen daughter into a two-hour medieval sword fight as punishment pleaded not guilty Tuesday to assault charges.
Police say 38-year-old Fremon Seay was angry that his 16-year-old daughter had run away so he forced her to dress up in Renaissance armor with a shield and wooden sword for a battle that ended when she collapsed. He’s also accused of whipping the backs of her legs with a willow switch.
KIRO-FM reports (http://bit.ly/sU2RTq) the girl’s stepmother, Julie Seay, was charged with assault for failing to intervene and also pleaded not guilty.
